Job Description

SCHEDULE: 

 • Friday to Monday 11:59pm to 8:29am (32hrs)
 • You may be required to work in the day or overnights to accommodate program operations 

WAGE: $27.50 per hour 

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: 

1. Supervision, Safety, and Facility Security
 • Maintain a safe, secure, and calm environment for residents during all assigned shifts, including overnights.
 • Conduct regular floor/room checks and facility walkthroughs to monitor resident well‑being and building safety.
 • Respond promptly and appropriately to emergencies (e.g., medical issues, behavioral crises, overdose, fire alarms, or building alarms).
 • Monitor and control access to the facility; ensure all entry points remain secure.
 • Admit visitors in accordance with guidelines and manage visitor behavior as required.
 • Supervise, monitor, and document resident actions and interactions to ensure safety and compliance with program rules.
 • Respond to and assist residents experiencing physical, mental, or emotional crises.
 • Monitor security-related concerns (locks, lighting, surveillance systems) and report malfunctions or vulnerabilities.
 • Conduct drug screening tests when required. 

2. Resident Support, Orientation, and Case Management Assistance
 • Provide emotional support, de‑escalation, and trauma‑informed, veteran‑sensitive interventions during crises.
 • Assist residents with understanding and following program rules, routines, and available services.
 • Conduct client orientation and review facility rules, rights and responsibilities, and complaint/grievance processes.
 • Support Case Workers in completing documentation or tasks related to Individual Development Plans (IDPs) and follow up with residents on progress.
 • Provide hands‑on coaching, training, and opportunities for residents to practice skills toward personal goals.
 • Facilitate and co‑facilitate psycho‑educational and experiential group sessions.
 • Deliver abstinence‑focused, relapse‑prevention programming through individual or group sessions.
 • Participate with residents in scheduled instructional, spiritual, or social activities as required.
 • Assist with intake and departure processes, ensuring smooth transitions into and out of the program.
 • Help residents prepare for exit planning and the completion of personal goals.
 • Respond to all resident inquiries within program policies and procedures. 

3. Collaboration and Community Coordination
 • Work closely with daytime/evening staff to ensure continuity of care through accurate documentation and communication.
 • Maintain effective working relationships with community agencies and service providers.
 • Coordinate activities and available external resources for the benefit of residents and the program.
 • Research and maintain knowledge of issues relevant to resident needs and develop resource information as necessary.
 • Participate in staff meetings, case management discussions, and contribute updates on resident progress. 

4. Administrative and Documentation Responsibilities
 • Complete incident reports, nightly logs, communication notes, case notes, and statistical records accurately and promptly.
 • Ensure that communication notes are concise, clear, and accessible for all relevant staff.
 • Maintain confidentiality and compliance with program policies, professional standards, and safety protocols.
 • Report building maintenance or security issues to appropriate personnel.
 • Answer telephone calls and direct inquiries to the appropriate staff or department.
 • Count, log, and maintain inventory of program supplies; notify appropriate personnel when replenishment is needed.
 • Manage assigned client files, including auditing, closing, and completing files upon program completion.
 • Assist with various administrative duties that may vary depending on the assigned shift. 

5. Perform other duties as assigned to support program operations and resident well‑being.

JOB SUMMARY:    
The Program Worker will work within a trauma-informed, client-centered, and recovery-oriented framework to support clients of West Coast Client Support Society’s Veteran’s Housing & Support Program in all aspects of personal development and growth. This includes life skills and relevant social and spiritual activities, empowering clients to reach their full potential and overcome obstacles hindering their successful reintegration into the community.  

EDUCATION & QUALIFICATION:
 • Completion of a two-year formal post-secondary/college program in social work or similar fields
 • Training/Certification in Addictions and/or Mental Health recovery
 • Current Certification in First Aid/CPR
 • Certification in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, or willingness to be trained.
 • Experience with, and knowledge of PTSD, trauma, and addictions populations
 • WHMIS
 • Certification in FOODSAFE Level 1
 • Universal precautions
 • Computer skills and training in Word, Outlook & Excel
 • Fluent in spoken and written English
 • Criminal Record Review Act clearance to work with vulnerable adults 

EXPERIENCE:
 • A minimum of two (2) years of working with individuals who are homeless or at risk of homelessness in a residential setting is preferred but applicable experience will also be considered.
 • Experience and knowledge of working within multiple frameworks and theoretical models of practice, program development and delivery, and working with individuals with complex mental health, PTSD, and addiction recovery needs.
 • Knowledge of program population complexities.
 • Knowledge and working experience of trauma-informed practice.

 • Ability to de-escalate individuals in stressful situations
 • Must be in good physical and mental health.
 • This position requires the incumbent to stand for extended periods of time and to lift and carry objects up to 40 lbs
