Job Description
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Carries out all routines and procedures to maintain a clean, safe and pleasant environment for the residents and co-workers.
- Complies with the facility policies and procedures pertaining to the care of the residents.
- Assists residents as necessary with Activities of Daily Living including bathing, personal hygiene, grooming, toileting and dressing.
- Ensures residents of safe mobility, as necessary.
- Tends to laundry, housekeeping and food service duties as required and time permits.
- Participates in group activities as time from giving care allows.
- Provides residents with gentle, respectful, safe care at all times.
- Builds trusting relationships with the residents.
- Works together with other members of the team in a respectful, co-operative way.
- Attends staff meetings and education and training programs as required.
- Reports any concerns or observations accurately on the resident’s health record and to co-workers.
- Follows individual resident care plans. Needs to be aware of any residents with food allergies or sensitivities.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be skilled at problem-solving, including being able to identify issues and resolve them in a timely manner.
- Must possess strong interpersonal skills.
- Must be able to prioritize and plan work activities to use time efficiently.
- Must be organized, accurate, thorough, and able to monitor work for quality.
- Must be dependable, able to follow instructions, respond to management direction, and must be able to provide performance through management feedback.
- Must have the ability to establish and maintain good interpersonal relations by displaying tact, courtesy and patience with applicants, clients, and staff.
EDUCATION/TRAINING:
- Completion of a Care Aide (HCA) program or equivalent.
- BC Care Aide Registration.
- Current First Aid & CPR
- Food Safe Certificate.
- WHMIS Certificate
- Geriatric experience is considered an asset.
PERSONAL:
- Must be able to speak English fluently and communicate effectively both verbally and in the composition of written materials.
- Must pass a Criminal Record Check.
Job Details
The Care Aide provides direct care to residents at the site and assists the residents in participating in all activities of daily living in a home-like setting. Reports to the General Manager and has a direct line to the LPN nurse.
